Progressive Syllabus
In 2017, Headquarters Air Cadets updated the old badge system by adding layers into the badge system. This allowed newer cadets to obtain badges with the opportunity to progress further. The new badge system was called the Progressive Syllabus. The new syllabus has delivered a sustainable air-minded youth organisation that offers a wide variety of fun and challenging opportunities.
Blue Badges provides the access to the scheme. The requirements to complete these challenges can be mainly completed at squadron level.
(Within our squadron training plan, cadets get the opportunity to complete a wide variety of these badges within the first year)
Bronze Badges are the next stage up from blue. They are slightly trickier and require more time to complete. Some of the badges can be completed at the squadron while others require the cadet to work with cadets from other squadrons completed at squadron level.
Silver Badges are the next stage up from bronze. This is where cadets start to specialise in certain areas of the cadet syllabus. Some will go on to focus on shooting, while others may favour first aid. At this stage, the content and requirements start to challenge the cadets.
Gold Badges are the final stage in the syllabus. This is where cadets have specialised in certain area of the cadet syllabus. In order to achieve these badges, cadets may have to go on a week long specialist camp where they all all the necessary skills.
