First Aid

Effective, Safe, Prompt

The Air Cadets offers cadets the opportunity to take part in numerous first aid qualifications. First aid is considered an essential skill and so is mandatory to all cadets.

Blue - HeartStart

This course is accredited by the British Heart Foundation and we aim to deliver this course within 3 months of a cadet joining. This course is delivered over 3 hours by one of our qualified instructors and covers the following content:

  • Heart attacks

  • CPR

  • Unconscious casualty

  • Choking

  • Serious bleeds

Bronze - Youth First Aid

This course is owned by St Johns Ambulance and cadets should progress to this award within the second year training programme. This course is delivered over 12 hours to the cadets and includes a wide range of content.​​

  • Asthma

  • Bites and Stings

  • Bleeding (minor)

  • Bleeding and Shock

  • Bone, Muscle and Joint Injuries

  • Burns and Scalds 

  • Chest Pains

  • Chocking 

  • Casualty Care

  • Electric Shock

  • Fainting

  • First Aid Kit

  • Foreign Objects

  • Head Objects

  • Heat Exhaustion

  • Hyperthermia

  • Hyperthermia

  • Low Blood Pressure

  • Poisons

  • Primary Survey

  • Recover Position

  • Resuscitation

  • Seizures

  • Severe Allergic Reaction

Silver - Activity First Aid

This course is also owned by St Johns Ambulance and is usually taught over a weekend. This course expands on what is taught in Youth First Aid and introduces some further topics such as Treatment in the Outdoors.

Gold - First Aid Instructor

For any cadet over the age of 17, with a passion for first aid there is an opportunity to become a first aid instructor. The course involves an AED Operator course as well as a casualty simulator, over the course of a week, which allows the cadets to create more realistic scenarios when they are instructing First Aid.
