In the Air Cadets we strongly believe in giving cadets the skills they will need to lead a team. We want our cadets to be able to lead groups while taking on the ideas of the whole team which we set out to do through their leading badges.
Blue - Foundation Leadership
Achieving this badge means a cadet has a knowledge of the principles of leadership and can deliver a task to their team in an understandable.
This is assessed at squadron level through a theory assessment and two practical leadership tasks
Any cadet that has 3 months service is eligible to get this badge.
Bronze - Basic Leadership
This course introduces action centred leadership, leadership styles and techniques. It also highlights the importance of effective communication.
This is assessed by a written theory test and also a practical test with cadets from another squadron.
Cadets can gain this award when they have had their blue badge for 6 months and been a cadet for 12 months.
Silver - Intermediate Leadership
This course is designed to look at teamwork, group dynamics, leadership culture, followership, roles, management versus leadership, target setting, prioritisation, delegation, team and individual leadership and practical leadership exercises.
Delivered at Wing level.
Assessed by a written theory test, practical leadership task and a self reflection log.
To be eligible to take part in the course cadets must have their bronze badge for 6 months and been a cadet for 24 months.
Gold - Advanced Leadership
To achieve the gold leadership badge cadets must complete a challenging leadership programme that produces a high level of competency and develops the potential for leadership instructors.
There are two recognised courses that cadets can attend.
Cadets must have completed their silver badge before they are able to gain their gold badge.
